HRY SPACE Talk: “On Youth Culture: Envisioning Untold Truths, Glamour, and Hopefulness”
On June 24th from 6:30-8:30 pm, HRY SPACE in collaboration with SIMPL MAG will be hosting HRY SPACE Talk under the theme:
“On Youth Culture: Envisioning Untold Truths, Glamour, and Hopefulness”
Food & drinks will be provided at the event reception, the talk starts at 6:30 pm sharp.
HRY SPACE Talk is an integral programming of HRY SPACE, for which we bring industry leading individuals together in a room filled with artworks from a generation of artists that are radically reshaping the contemporary art scene, hearing them share their experiences and ideas on their own works, and how we collectively move forward to drive positive impact for millennial culture worldwide.
Renee Mao (@maonayz)
Renee Mao is an Australian director based in New York City, her work taps into different social issues, celebrations, and communities through emotional and intimate spaces of everyday life. Graduating from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts for Film studies, she has built a diverse portfolio ranging from short films to commercial work for Google, Pepsi, and Chivas Regal. Her short film, The Last Line, premiered at the 2018 Austin Film Festival and will also play in the Oxford Film Festival, Manchester Film Festival, and the Miami Short Film Festival. Currently as the director of Greenpoint pictures, Renee’s most recent work featured by Dazed Magazine, The Making of Panthera is directed by herself and Savannah O’Leary. The film delves into the drag community by documenting the daily routine of Panthera Lush, and the performer’s alter ego, Alika Hall.
Sinjun Strom (@sinjunstrom)
Sinjun Strom is a visual artist from Minnesota based in New York City. Everything in her images and films is elaborately detailed and are created by hand from furniture in sets, wallpapers, props, clothing as well as styles her models makeup and hair. Together, these elements create an original and cinematic quality in her work. Sinjun graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York, exclusively learning film formats from 35mm to large format view cameras. Strom is also a set designer for a short film called Crude Oil, as well as a stylist for many music videos for Band Pilot, Jens Lekman, Rod Melancon. Her other clients for editorial shoots also include the makeup and skincare company Milk and fashion designer Anna van Gheem.
Ysa Pérez (@ysaperez)
Ysa Pérez is a photographer born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and raised in Rochester, New York. She obtained her BFA in Photographic Illustration at The Rochester Institute of Technology in 2010. After graduation, she moved to New York City and worked as a photography assistant at GQ. From there, she dove into her own body of work, specializing in 35mm, 120 medium format and polaroids. A permanent fixture in the city’s hip hop and electronic music scenes, she had the opportunity to shoot A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown, Chief Keef, Solange Knowles and Meek Mill. Ysa’s editorial work has appeared in Spin, Wired, Bloomberg Businessweek, Allure and Teen Vogue, and her commercial clients include Adidas, Puma and Nike. Her recent publication, 'One Late Summer', illustrates her unique and vibrant style of portraiture, where aesthetic rigor intersects with an enduring fascination with youth culture.
